Walter James Taylor 1922 - 2004 Walter James Taylor, 81, 919 11 St NW, Minot, died Monday, April 26, 2004, in his home. Walter was born July 14, 1922, in Bantry, ND, the son of Samuel and Frances (Koenig) Taylor. He was raised and educated in Bantry. He helped his family run the local gas station in Bantry. In the 1930's he moved to the family farm near Bantry. He joined the United States Army 76th Infantry Division on October 23, 1942. He served for one and a half years overseas in European Theater, through France, Rhineland and Belgium. He was involved in the "Battle of Bastogne," and received the Presidential Unit Citation. He was honorably discharged from the service on November 10, 1945, and returned from the service to travel and later worked in California and Arizona. In the early 1950's, he returned to the family farm. He married Evanell Peterson on June 18, 1952. In 1959, they moved to Minot and he continued to run the family farm. He also worked as a civil service personal at the Minot Air Force Base. In the mid 1970's he retired from Minot Air Force Base but continued to farm until 2003. He had two children, Bryan and LuAnn. Walter loved to travel and took many family vacations across the United States. He always had a dog and enjoyed having him as a buddy by his side. He will be remembered for his kind and gentle spirit. He will be greatly missed by all. Walter was a member of the Minot American Legion, the Minot Disabled American Veterans, and the United Methodist Church, Bantry. Taylor, Minot; daughter, LuAnn (Bernard) Trotebas, Hood River, OR; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Frances Taylor and Rolettea Taylor; and brother, Lorance Taylor. Funeral: Thursday, April 29, 2004, 2:00 pm, at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot. Visitation: Wednesday, April 28, 2004, from noon until 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.
