Alma C. Taylor 1904 - 2002

Alma C. Taylor, 98, Velva, died Sunday, October 6, 2002, in the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva.

Alma was born July 21, 1904, in Willis Township, near Sawyer, ND, the daughter of William J. and Emma W. (Klukas) Habeck. She was raised in Willis Township and attended Velva High School, where she graduated in 1923. She attended Minot Normal School and earned her teaching certificate. Alma taught school in Simcoe for a time.

On February 15, 1924, she married John Lawrence Taylor, Sr., in Willis Township. They made their home in Velva. Alma worked out of her home as a seamstress for JCPenny Co. for 17 years. She then worked at the JCPenny store in Minot for a couple of years. Alma worked at the Velva Public School Library for several years, and was employed there at the time the new library was built. Her husband Lawrence died February 7, 1966. She continued to live in Velva until the time of her death.

Alma was a member of Oak Valley Lutheran Church in Velva, for 78 years. She was active in the church circle and was also involved in doing quilting work for missions. She was active in Girl Scouts, was a charter member of the Velva Senior Citizens, and was also active in a bridge club in Velva.

Survivors: Children, Leon "Babe" Taylor, Eureka, CA, Verdell (Greta) Taylor, Fargo, Marilyn "Marly" White, Burney, CA, Theodore "Ted" (Barb) Taylor, Fargo, Kaye (John) Tomlinson, St. Paul, NE; foster children, Lloyd Dockter, Brush Harbor, WA, and Wally Dockter, Walnut Creek, CA; 27 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Lawrence Taylor, Sr.; daughter, Edith Anne Laufer; son, John Lawrence Taylor, Jr.; her parents, and brothers and sisters, Pauline Pickard, Herman Habeck, Martha Netzloff, Minnie Tompkins, Anne Olson, Otto Habeck, and Bill Habeck.

Funeral: Friday, October 11, 2002, at 10:00 a.m., at Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva, ND.

Visitation: Thursday, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Velva, ND with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial: Velva Cemetery, Velva, ND.
