Vernon L. Swiss Sr. 1917- 2006 He was born on March 2, 1917, in Minot, ND the son of Louis and Josephine (Braaton) Swiss. He was reared and educated in Minot and at the age of six he assisted his father in the family tire shop and hauling ice from Lake Metigoshe to Minot. Vernon married Mildred Olson in January of 1935. The couple had three children. Vernon worked as a power plant operator at Northern States Power for 40 years. Vernon and Mildred owned a cabin at Lake Metigoshe, which was his pride and joy. He retired from NSP in 1975. Mildred died in 1983. Vernon married Bernice "Bonnie" A. Dalen in 1989. The couple made their home in Minot and in his later years, he developed an appreciation for gardening and the arts. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Minot and the Brotherhood
