Marvin Swenson 1926- 2006

Marvin L. Swenson, 79, Minot, died Tuesday, September 5, 2006 in a Minot hospital.

Marvin was born October 13, 1926 on the family farm in Willis Township, rural Sawyer, ND, to Carl O. and Mabel (Myren) Swenson. He was raised in that area and attended country school. While growing up Marvin worked on the family farm and broke horses.

On January 17, 1945, he entered the United States Army and served with Company G, 63rd Infantry, 6th Red Star Division in the South Pacific during World War II. He was honorably discharged on November 30, 1946. Following his discharge he returned to Minot and attended Minot State College.

Marvin married Mildred Brietzke on January 27, 1948 in Fargo, ND. Following their marriage they moved to Minot, where he worked at Minot Decorating and later worked for Lillemon's Painting. Marvin opened his own business, M.L. Swenson Paper Hanging, which he owned and operated until his retirement in 1996.

Marvin was a charter member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, all in Minot. He served several years as secretary of the Painters Union Local #565. He loved traveling in their motor home with his wife, Mildred, and together they took their children on several camping trips while they were growing up. Marvin was a jack of all trades and a master of them all. He could fix anything and was always available to help. In his spare time he enjoyed working on and restoring John Deere tractors. Marvin loved to hunt and fish, but he especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a great man, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather with a big heart and he was always willing to listen. He will be greatly missed by all.

Those who shared in his life: Wife, Mildred, Minot; children, Perry Swenson, Joette Heim and her fiancé, Leo Brown, and Randy Swenson, all of Minot; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; sister, Bertha Einsphar of Nebraska; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive.
