Glen Manfred Swenson 1915 - 2004 Glen Manfred Swenson, 89, Bowbells, died Tuesday, September 14, 2004, in the Mohall Good Samaritan Center. Glen was born April 10, 1915, on the family homestead in the First Commissioners District, near Bowbells, ND, the eighth child of Gustave and Agnes (Ferm) Swenson. He was reared on the family homestead and educated in rural Bowbells schools. He worked with his brother-in-law's construction firm, John Peterson Construction, in Minneapolis, MN, for a few years. Glen married Lillian G. Sorum on April 14, 1940 on the Gust Swenson Farm. They bought their farm ten miles north of Bowbells in North Star Township, Burke County, in 1942 from the Federal Land Bank. They planted trees and built up their farm to the beautiful site that it is today. Glen continued farming following Lillian's death in February of 1993. He moved into Edgewood Vista assisted living in Minot for a short time in January of 2002. In April of 2002 he was moved to the Good Samaritan Center of Mohall. Glen had a love for old-time music and could play any musical instrument by ear, especially the fiddle and accordion. He played the fiddle for many dances. In his later years he played with the "Troubadours" which included Marvin Helgeson and Viola Halverson. They played at nursing homes, senior citizen centers and dances in the surrounding area. Survivors: Son Wendell (Mary) Swenson, Bowbells; daughters, Dianne (Wayne) George, Broken Bow, OK, and Jeanne (Jeff) Johnson, Bowbells; seven grandchildren, Aaron Swenson, Curtis (Shonda) George, Carla George, Jared, Jessica, Jordan, and Jacob Johnson; two great-grandchildren, Halen and Haden George; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive, and a special cousin, Manfred (Irene) Swenson. Glen was the last surviving sibling of the eleven children. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lillian; brothers, Floyd, Willard, Raymond and Dwain Swenson; sisters, Mabel Peterson, Hazel Mastrud, Ella Sederberg, Myrtle Fester, Edith McClure and Ethel Eklund. Funeral: Friday, September 17, 2004, at 10:30 a.m., at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Bowbells, ND. Visitation: There will be no reviewal, but friends may sign the register Friday, one hour prior to the service in the church. Burial: Bowbells Cemetery, Bowbells, ND.
