Gene "Geno" Summers
1946
- 2009 Eugene Howard “Geno” Summers was born November 8, 1946, a son of G.E. and Polly (Poore) Summers, in Devils Lake, ND. He was raised in Devils Lake, until 1954, when he and his family moved to Minot. He was educated there and graduated from Williston High School in 1966. Geno enlisted in the United States Army October 14, 1966. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged August 29, 1968. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, he moved to Tucson, Arizona, where he had met and later married Dolores “Nel” Nelson August 28, 1971. They made their home in Minot. He later attended Minot State University, where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Social Work in 1984. He continued his education at the University of Denver in Denver, CO, where he received his Master’s degree in Social Work in 1986. Following his graduation, they returned to North Dakota. Geno had worked in Minot and the Bismarck Vet Centers, before transferring to the Vet Center in Sioux City, IA. He later worked at the Vet Center in Rapid City, SD. He retired in 1996 due to ill health. He went on to turn his hobby of building computers into a business that he named Marc’s Computers, operating in Rapid City and later in Minot. The business remained in operation until 2007. He was proud to be the president and co-founder of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 81 as well as a member of the Minot American Legion Post #26. Surviving family includes: wife of
38 years, Nel, rural Minot; son, Marc (Andrea) Summers, Rapid
City, SD; daughter, Renae Summers, Minot; grandchildren, Sinowa
Summers, Rebecca Summers, Dominic Summers, and Evelyn Summers;
brothers, Dick (Pat) Teschner, Phoenix, AZ, Tim (Harrietta) Summers,
Minot, and George (Sue) Summers, Minot; and numerous nieces,
