Harold C. Struksnes 1946 - 2006

Harold C. Struksnes, 59, 5405 33rd Ave. SE, Minot, a long time Minot business man, died Saturday in Alexandria, MN, on his way to his aunt Dorothy's 90th birthday.

Harold was born on January 14, 1946, the son of Christ and Rosemary (Breitner) Struksnes, in Valley City, ND. At two years of age, he moved with his family to Minot. He worked as a paperboy for the Minot Daily News, while attending school in Minot. He graduated from Minot High School in 1964. Following graduation, he attended Minot State University for two years. While in school, he worked for his father at Struksnes Construction, Inc.

Harold entered the United States Army on May 20, 1968, and was stationed in Germany during Vietnam. Harold was placed on reserve duty on May 31, 1969 till July 26, 1970, when his father became ill. He returned to active duty and was honorably discharged from the United States Army on October 2, 1970.

Harold was united in marriage to Judy Possen on March 8, 1974 at First Lutheran Church, Minot. Following their marriage, the couple along with their son, made their home in the Minot area. In 1978, along with his brother, he purchased Struksnes Construction Company Inc. and Truck and Equipment Sales and Service Inc. from his father. Harold worked on various projects throughout the Minot area, his number one project was the Souris River Flood Control Project, which was completed one year ahead of schedule. Harold was also proud of the work he did at the Minot Air Force Base, the cloverleaf on highway 2 and 52 bypass, Menards site and the new Super Wal-Mart site. He constructed new runways at the Minot International Airport, as well the Glen Ullin Airport. Harold's son Richard died on November 1, 2000. Harold and Judy have spent the last few years raising their granddaughter, Faith.

Harold was a confirmed member of First Lutheran Church, Minot. He was also a member of the Minot Gun Club, the Associated General Contractors, the Drift Busters Snowmobile Club and a former member of the Elks Lodge.

Survivors: wife, Judy; granddaughter, Faith Marie Struksnes; brothers, Robert M. (Joy) Struksnes; sisters, Kathleen M. Brockey, all of Minot; Mary C. (Rodger) Zurcher, Glenburn; mother-in-law, Ruth Possen, Velva, ND; brothers-in-law, Bob (Judy) Possen, West Fargo, ND; Donald Possen, Nashville, TN; Ronald (Margie) Possen, Washburn, ND; and Dennis Possen, Devils Lake, ND ; sisters-in-law, Beatrice Reynolds, Hendersonville, TN; and Sandy Possen, Devils Lake, ND; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins along with numerous great nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his son, Richard, and his parents, Christ and Rosemary, brother-in-law, Jim Possen, father-in-law, Richard Possen, and an uncle, Dick Breitner.

Funeral service: Wednesday, January 11, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, Minot.

Visitation: Tuesday, January 10, 2006, from Noon until 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Burial: First Lutheran Cemetery, Minot.
