Clarence "Bud"
Struckness 1923 - 2007
Clarence was born August 19, 1923, in Carpio, ND, the son of Louis and Rachael Struckness. He was raised and educated in Carpio. He served with the Civilian Conservation Corps. On December 26, 1943 he entered the United States Navy and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged on April 18, 1946 and returned to North Dakota. Clarence married Shirley Herr on September 23, 1949 in Minot, ND. Following their marriage they made their home in Minot and later moved to Burlington where they have resided for the past 35 years.. Clarence worked for Ward County for several years and later the Great Northern Railroad. He joined the 49ers Operating Engineers, where he was a heavy equipment operator. He worked there until ill health forced him to retire. Following retirement he could be found helping his wife Shirley at the Speedway and Hacienda Restaurants. He was a lifetime member of the Moose and Elks Lodges, Eagles Aerie, the Last Man's Club, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors: Wife, Shirley, Burlington; sons, James (Susan) Struckness, Hanover, MN, Dale (Marion) Struckness, Minot, and Charles Struckness, Burlington; grandchildren, Christopher Thurow, Norah Struckness, Michael Struckness, Chad Struckness, Elizabeth, Kathrine and Sarah Neff; great-grandchildren, Zoe, Mia and Meaghan Struckness; sister, Gladys Eng, Watford City, ND; several nieces, nephews and cousins survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, and seven brothers and sisters. Memorial Service: Thursday, February 15, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, Burlington, ND. Visitation: There will be no reviewal, but friends may sign the register Wednesday, (today) from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot. Burial: Thursday at 3:00 p.m. at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND. Officiants: Rev. Pat McCormack and Rev. James Shakelford Music: Congregational Hymns Honorary Bearers: George Gathman, Leon Goebel, Randy Glasoe, Francis Miller, Greg King Marty Christianson Flag Presentation: Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #753, Minot, ND Following the memorial service everyone is invited to join
