Stromberg 1924 - 2003 John "Douglas" Stromberg, 78, 1009 19 Ave SW, Minot, died Thursday, June 26, 2003, in a Minot Medical Center. Doug was born October 4, 1924, in Minot, the son of J. Victor and Rosella Lunder (Erickson) Stromberg. He was raised on the farm near Deering, ND, and graduated from Glenburn High School in 1944. He entered into active duty with the Army in February 1945, and was stationed at Fort Leonardwood MO. While in the Army, he was stationed in Japan during WWII. After returning from the service, Doug was united in marriage to Caryl Johnson on December 23, 1946. He managed the Berthold Farmers Elevator for a time. In 1959, he moved to Dickinson and worked for Atwood Larson Grain Commission Company as an auditor and trouble-shooter. In 1973, he moved back to Minot and retired. One of his many loves was working on the family farm, and staying in touch with family, neighbors and the farming community. Doug was a long time member of Zion Lutheran Church, Minot, where he served as church councilman. He was also a former member of the Elks, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Eagles, all of Minot. Doug loved to hunt, camp, and go on pontoon rides with his children and grandchildren. He also traveled to Arizona in the winter months. His loving family includes his wife, Caryl Stromberg, Minot; daughters, Cheryl Moore and husband David Kraft, Bismarck, Ina Gowin and husband Randy, Bismarck, and Darla Fimrite and husband Andy, Burlington; sons, Tom Stromberg and wife Pam, Manhattan, MT, and Dan Stromberg and wife Nyla, Minot; daughter-in-law, Sue Stromberg, Bluffton, IN; grandchildren, Travis Stromberg and wife Karsen, , Paul Kunkel, Jennifer Gowin, Jodi Blevins and husband Tyler, Veronica Malachowski, Jill Sailer and husband Russ, Jamie Stromberg and fiance, Tim Fagin, Brady Gowin, Lance Stromberg, Joshua Stromberg, Kayla Stromberg, Aftin Fimrite, and Brenna Fimrite; great-grandchildren, Beau Kunkel, Libby and Karly Stromberg; and sister, Rose Marie Bennett and husband Harry, Glenburn. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, oldest son, Larry, and two brothers, Sanford and Gordon Stromberg. Funeral: Saturday, June 28, 2003, at 11:00 am at Zion Lutheran Church, Minot. Visitation: Friday, June 27, 2003, from noon until 7:00 pm at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot. Burial: St. Olaf's Cemetery, rural Deering, ND at 2:00
