Gary A. Streich • 1947 - 2010 Gary Allen Streich was born February 6, 1947 in Minot, ND to Herman “Mike” and Norma (Walstad) Streich. He was raised and educated in Maxbass, ND, graduating from Maxbass High School in 1965. He attended the Bottineau School of Forestry for a short time and Valley City State University where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1969. On October 4, 1980, Gary married Julia Patch in Williston, ND. Following their marriage they made their home in Minot, where they raised three children, Amy, Nicholas and Joshua. Gary worked as a rough neck in the oil fields and drove truck for Matador after graduation. He then worked at Leon Manufacturing, where he sold farm equipment. He later managed Furnipa before forming his own company Magic City Seating, which he owned and operated out of his home. Gary then worked at Sykes and E-Tele Care before starting a career in public transportation. He drove for the Commission on Aging, after which he drove the Canadian Pacific and Burlington Northern Railroad Crews to sites around ND. He also drove taxi for several companies in Minot before retiring in 2009. Gary lived by the motto "There are no strangers, but only friends we haven't meet yet.". He could talk to anyone about anything and was interested in everything they had to say. Gary loved his family and relished the new job of being a Pa Pa to his grandson Owen. Gary enjoyed his daily breakfast with close friends and car club members. Gary enjoyed collecting and restoring old cars but his favorites were muscle cars. His favorite past time was driving through rural ND with his son Joshua. Their goal was to visit every town in North Dakota and they took many day trips on their way to accomplishing this task. He was a member of the Magic City Antique Car Club and St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, where he served as an Elder for many years. Those who shared in his life, Wife, Julia, Minot; children, Amy (Jared Maucher) Streich, Minot, Nicholas (Jessica Nickelsen) Streich, Valley City, ND, and Joshua Streich, Minot; grandchildren, Owen Streich, Darrick Nickelsen and Alyson Baumgartner; brothers, Marvin (Barbara) Streich, Minot, Richard (JoAnn) Streich, Mineral, WA, and Michael (Vickie) Streich, Belgrade, MT; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and cousins. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Norma Streich. Funeral: Saturday, November 27, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Minot, ND. Visitation and prayer service: Visitation will be Friday (today) from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m., all at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND.
