Eva Straight • 1912 - 2006 Eva Straight, 93, Minot, died Monday, January 23, 2006 in a Minot nursing home. Eva was born March 26, 1912 in Orrin, ND, the daughter of Moritz and Adelaide Bertsch. She was raised and educated in Orrin. On December 20, 1936 Eva married Raymond Straight at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Minot. Following their marriage they made their home in Minot. In the late 40s Eva worked as a waitress at LaPlaza Café in the Leland Parker Hotel, Charlie's Café, and also at the Beaver Palace, all in Minot. In the early 50s Raymond and Eva began a concession business. The business began as Ray's local stand at the Ward County Fair and during the construction of the John Moses Veterans Hospital in Minot they opened a restaurant in their backyard, where they were able to feed the construction crew. Together they traveled to fairs and rodeos across the country, meeting many people and making many friends. They owned and operated their concession business for over 50 years until their retirement. Raymond died on July 24, 2003. Eva was a charter member of Little Flower Catholic Church, Minot. She was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the Eagle's Auxiliary, both in Minot. Mom, we will miss your homemade German noodles! Survivors: Children, Duane (Robbie) Straight, Crystal, MN, Joan Blankenship, Denver, CO, Dianne (Dave) Giessinger and James (Lisa Koenigsman) Straight, all of Minot; daughter-in-law, Judy Straight, Minot; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Eva was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; her parents, Moritz and Adelaide Bertsch, and 12 brothers and sisters. Funeral: Friday at 11:00 a.m., at Little Flower Catholic Church, Minot, ND. Visitation and vigil prayer service: Visitation will be Thursday from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., with the vigil prayer service at 7:00 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
