John F. "Johnnie" Stewart 1934 - 2004

John F. "Johnnie" Stewart, 70, 8570 Highway 8, Kenmare, died May 15, 2004 at his home.

Johnnie was born April 2, 1934, on the family farm, in Dimond Township, Burke County, ND, the son of Waldon and Thelma (Pierson) Stewart. He was raised on the family farm and attended country school, one mile from home, through his sophomore year.

He worked for the Great Northern Railroad from 1952 to 1957. In February of 1957 he entered the United States Army and was honorably discharged in February of 1959. On August 6, 1959 he married Beatrice "Betty" Hawes in Stanley, ND. They made their home on the family farm, where they farmed and raised cattle and sheep. Johnnie also worked for International Harvester until 1966. He went to work for the Lostwood Wildlife Refuge, until he retired in 1994. He enjoyed spending his time farming.

Johnnie loved being with people and liked helping everyone he could. He always had time for everyone and he loved visiting. Everyone he met he considered family.

Johnnie was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bowbells. He served as supervisor for the Dimond Township Board since the 1960's.

He is survived by his wife Betty, Kenmare; his children, Marty Stewart, Kenmare, Tim Stewart, Doran, MN, Fran Miller and her husband, John, Bismarck, and Vernon Stewart and his friend Tammy Peterson, Kensington, MN. His pride and joy were his grandchildren, Jessica Strait, John and Jordan Stewart; brother, Clarence Stewart and wife RuthAnn, Tioga, sisters, Mariea Holter and husband Lloyd, Kenmare, and Margret Robley, Encino, CA. As well as many other special people too numerous to name, and his beloved dog Daisy. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial Mass: Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Bowbells, ND.

Public Vigil Prayer Service: Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at 7:00 p.m., at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Bowbells.

There will be no reviewal, cremation has taken place, friends may sign the register book Tuesday, one hour prior to the vigil service and Wednesday, one hour prior to the funeral in the church.

Burial: Tuesday at 1:30 p.m, at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Bowbells, ND.
