Marion Stevens • 19 - 2007 Marion was born on October 4, 1936, the daughter of Edward and Ada (Dudley) Nielsen in Kenmare, ND. She was reared and educated in Bowbells, graduating from Bowbells High School in 1954. Following her high school graduation, she received her teaching certificate from Minot State Teachers College. She taught in rural schools for three years. On April 15, 1959, she was united in marriage to Gorton "Doc" Stevens in Bowbells, ND. They lived in Flaxton for four years, before moving to Lignite, where she was the bookkeeper for Stevens & Sons Welding in Lignite. She assisted her husband with the business until their retirement. Marion was very involved in her community. She participated in numerous activities, anything from the election board to selling poppies. She was also an active member of Christ Lutheran Church, Lignite, where she served as an officer of the C.L.C.W., was an American Legion Auxiliary Member, Foothills and Lignite Homemakers, and a 4-H leader. You could always depend on Marion to show up at various functions with a tea-ring or her potato salad. She enjoyed playing cards with friends, sewing, baking and spending time with family and friends. Surviving relatives include: Husband of 48 years, Gorton "Doc" Stevens, Lignite, ND; children: Ross (Naty) Stevens, Des Moines, WA, Joni (Gus Bougharious) Stevens, New York, NY, Jay Stevens, Littleton, CO, Teri Stevens, Bismarck, ND; Two grandchildren: Bryce Stevens, Cyndy Wilson; brothers Norman (Bonnie) Nielsen, Bowbells, ND, Ted (Mary Lee) Nielsen, Bear Lake, MI, Norbert (Pauline) Nielsen, Kenmare, ND, Dan (Karen) Nielsen, Fargo ND; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Marion was preceded in death by her parents, brother Kermit Nielsen and sister Roslyn Nielsen. Visitation: Tuesday, December 4, 2007 from 5-7p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, Lignite, ND with a prayer service at 7 in the church. Funeral Service: Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at 11a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, Lignite, ND Burial: Wednesday at 2:30 at Bowbells Community Cemetery, Bowbells, ND Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Foundation.
