C.B. "Bud" Stevens, 82, Granville, died Saturday, November 15, 2008 in Minot, North Dakota.

Bud was born February 1, 1926 at his grandparent's homestead, near Max, ND, the son of Clarence B. Stevens and Olga (Lindquist) Stevens. His father was a depot agent, so he moved with his family to different towns and attended school in Wabek, ND, Dooley, MT, Harvey, ND, Kramer, ND and Granville, ND. Bud graduated from Granville High School in 1944. He entered the United States Navy on July 1, 1944 and served on an LSM during World War II. While in uniform, he married his high school sweetheart, Ardith Loftesnes at North Prairie Lutheran Church in Simcoe on September 24, 1945. He was honorably discharged on March 8, 1946 and returned home to North Dakota.

Bud and Ardy lived, farmed and ranched near Granville and had two daughters, Diane and Jennifer, while living there. In 1950 they moved to Eugene, OR. In the next 12 years, they had four more children, Debbie, Greg, Mark and Scott. While living in Eugene, Bud worked in plywood plants. In 1962, the family moved to Reedsport, OR, where Bud was manager of the new US Plywood plant. In 1964 Bud and his family moved to Silsbee, TX, where he was one of the pioneers in the manufacture of southern pine plywood. He began with Kirby Forest Industries as a manager and ended his career as Senior Vice President in charge of all manufacturing. During this time, Bud became a member of the board of directors of the American Plywood Association and was Chairman of the Board when he retired from Kirby in 1986.

After retirement, Bud and Ardy returned to Eugene, OR to ranch. They raised Polled Hereford cattle and enjoyed ranch life. In 1992, the urge to return to their roots brought them back home to ND where they farmed and raised cattle.
