Bennie L. Spelhaug 1926 - 2006 Bennie Leroy Spelhaug was born on October 10, 1926 in Wolseth, ND, the son of Andrew and Aase (Halgrimson) Spelhaug. He was raised in that area and attended Wolseth Public School. While growing up he helped on the family farm. He was baptized on October 31, 1926 and confirmed on November 7, 1943 at Nedrose Lutheran Church in Wolseth. On January 17, 1945 he entered the United States Army and served during World War II. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. While in the service he was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged on November 20, 1946, and he returned to North Dakota. Bennie married Lucille Klebe on April 27, 1952 at rural Willow City, ND. Following their marriage they moved to Minot to live for two years. Bennie worked at Terhorst Machine Shop as a machinist and later at Goodman Electric as a milking machine installer. They moved to Glenburn in 1954, then to Wolseth in 1956 and to their present farm in Glenburn in 1965. Bennie farmed from 1954 until his semi-retirement in 1990. He loved the farm. Bennie was a member of Lynch Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Glenburn. He drove bus for the Glenburn Public School and served on the Ensign Township Board for many years. In his younger days he played shortstop with the Wolseth Baseball Team. He was a member of the Glenburn American Legion. Those Who Shared In His Life, Wife, Lucille, Glenburn; daughters, Vicki (Al) Hanson, rural Minot, Bonnie (Allan) Klindworth, Maple Grove, MN, Julie (Steve) Piggott, Southlake, TX; son, Roger (Correne) Spelhaug, Minot; nine grandchildren, Kaitlyn Hanson, Heather and Alyssa Klindworth, Alexa and Shane Piggott, Laura, Lyndsey, Amanda and Luke Spelhaug; brother, Chet Spelhaug, Marysville, WA; sisters-in-law, Luella Spelhaug, Minot, and Sylvia Spelhaug, Canton, SD; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Alvin, Hank, Ray and Minor; sisters, Selma Christian, Minerva Palmer, Olga Samuelson and Theodora "Teddy" Brandt. Funeral Service: Thursday, September 14, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lynch Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Glenburn. Visitation: Wednesday, September 13, 2006 from noon until 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot Burial: Thursday, September 14, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
