Violet Spalla 1922- 2011

Violet Spalla PhotoViolet Spalla, 89, Minot, formerly of the Plaza area, died Sunday, September 18, 2011 in a Minot nursing home.

Violet Smestad was born January 25, 1922 in Plaza, ND to Eddie and Anna (Locken) Smestad.  She was raised and attended school in that area.

On July 28, 1947, Violet married Frederick C. Spalla in Minot.  Following their marriage they made their home on a farm in Lund Township, northeast of Plaza, ND.  In her earlier years Violet worked at Ellison’s Department Store as a waitress. In 1992 they retired and moved to Minot, but maintained their farming interests.  Violet loved gathering with her friends and family for coffee.  Her husband Frederick passed away on June 5, 1994.

While living on the farm Mrs. Spalla was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plaza.  She was a former member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church and currently a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, both in Minot.

Those who shared in her life, Daughter, Anna Marie Snyder, Parshall, ND;  sister-in-law, Marles Smestad, Riverdale, ND; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Violet was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick; son-in-law, Walter Snyder; her parents, Eddie and Anna; brothers, Morris and Everett Smestad, and sister, Eleanor Anderson.

Funeral:  Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot, ND.

Visitation:  Tuesday, (today) September 20, 2011 from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Burial:  Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.
