Loren A. Solberg 1931 - 2004

Loren A. Solberg, 72, Minot, died Tuesday, January 27, 2004, in a Minot hospital.

Loren was born September 4, 1931, in Duluth, Minnesota, the son of Abner and Ebba Solberg. He was raised and educated in Duluth and graduated from Denfeld High School. He attended Michigan Tech College in Houghton, Michigan and was in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954, when he resumed his studies at the University of Minnesota.

He married Irene Torseth in Duluth, Minnesota on June 15, 1957. They resided in the Minneapolis area for 19 years prior to moving to Minot with their family in 1976. He was employed by Northern States Power (Xcel Energy) for 31 years, retiring in 1991.

Boy Scouting was a special interest to Loren, and he received the rank of Eagle Scout. This led to the involvement through the years by becoming a cubmaster in Minneapolis and a Scoutmaster in Troop #433 at Christ Lutheran Church, Minot for 13 years. He also was chairman in many capacities, most recently being committee chairman of the troop. He received the Scouting Silver Beaver Award and the Lamb Scouting Award from the Evangelical Lutheran Church. Loren was also a member of the Order of Arrow Brotherhood. During Loren's years with Troop #433, 23 scouts have achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.

Loren was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Minot, where he was a former council member, a member of Lutheran Men in Mission, and couples Bible Study. He was also a Hostfest worker, and a member of Sons of Norway, the American Legion, the Golden "K" Kiwanis and the Minot Rifle and Pistol Club.

Survivors include his wife, Irene, Minot; sons, Kent (Linda) Solberg, Verndale, MN, and Jay (Caty) Solberg, Rogers, MN; two grandsons, Seth and Eli Solberg; sister, Bonnie Erickson, Duluth, MN; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Loren was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Charlene Andreason.

Funeral: Saturday, January 31, 2004, at 10:30 a.m., at Christ Lutheran Church, Minot, ND.

Visitation: Friday, January 30, 2004, from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND.

Burial: Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls, MN, at a later time.
