Elaine Snyder, 68 of Makoti North Dakota passed away Monday January 19th 2009 at Trinity Hospital from heart failure.

Elaine was born Elaine Joyce Demchuk on January 19, 1941 in Detroit Michigan to Alex and Emma Demchuk. Shortly after her birth the family moved to Makoti, ND. She graduated from Makoti High School in 1959 and went on to attend Minot Business College where she earned her degree in Finance.

Elaine married Laurel Avery Snyder in the winter of 1961 and over the next 20 years they enjoyed traveling and raising a family. Elaine worked as bookkeeper and Laurel as a chef. They spent time in Nevada, California, New Mexico, Wyoming, Kansas and Missouri before returning to North Dakota with their five children in 1982. They returned to the family farm in Makoti in 1992 where she worked as a Book Keeper at Broadway Printing until her retirement in 2002.

Elaine's hands were never still. She was a master of crochet and wherever a wedding, birthday or baby shower took place a beautiful afghan could be expected as a gift. Her whole life was dedicated to other people. Caring for her mother, husband, children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews meant the world to her. She never knew the word, "No". If there was ever a need, she was the first to volunteer. She was everyone's best friend and confidant. Later in life Elaine was very involved in the community of Makoti and actively served as the president of the Makoti Homemakers for many years. The family farm was Elaine's true home she loved the solitude and peacefulness of the country and enjoyed working in her ever expanding garden every spring.
