E. G. "Pat" Smesrud 1925 - 2004

E. G. "Pat" Smesrud, 78, 1725-2nd Ave. SW, Minot, died Saturday, January 31, 2004, at his home.

Pat was born on December 5, 1925 in Glenfield, ND, the son of Selmer and Mina Smesrud. They moved to Carpio, ND in 1929 and in 1941 they moved to Granville, ND. He joined the US Navy on December 7, 1942 and served in the South Pacific for two and one half years and was discharged on December 20, 1945. Upon his discharge, he moved to Minot where he worked in several retail stores from 1945 until 1950 and also at the Minot Fire Department. He was recalled into active duty with the US Navy in December of 1950 and served as a corpsman with the First Marine Division in Korea. He was discharged in June of 1952. He then took a job as territory manager with the Standard Oil Company for nine years.

Pat married Marlys Jacobson-Angelo on November 30, 1958 in Minot. They moved to Bottineau, where they lived for four years before moving back to Minot.

In the early 1960's he became district sales manager for Star Rubber Company, which was a division of Kelly Springfield, for fourteen years. Pat has been in specialty sales since 1980. He presently was a salesman for Stevick Business Forms. His wife Marlys died on May 5, 2004.

Pat was a member of the Church of Christ, Minot. He was also a member of the American Legion, the Elks Lodge, the Minot Association of Professional Salesmen and was salesmen of the year for that organization in 1982. He enjoyed reading, was an avid baseball fan and World War II buff.

Survivors: sons, Tom (Julie) Smesrud, Minot, and Robert (Lisa) Smesrud, Minot,; daughter, Jeri Angelo-Smesrud, (Jim Rakness), Minot. Six grandchildren, Corey Feldner, Camille St. Croix, Nathan, Sheila, Mark and Dana Smesrud. Three great grandchildren, Eric, Noell and Tristan Feldner; sisters, Laurel (Herb) Livingston, Granville and Frances Loftesnes, Minot, along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marlys; parents, Selmer and Mina Smesrud and two daughters, Linda Angelo-Feldner and Sheila Angelo-St. Croix.

Funeral: Church of Christ, Minot, ND, on Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at 3:30 p.m.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot

Visitation: Tuesday, February 3, 2004, at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m.
