Audrey Sloan 1916 - 2002

Audrey Sloan, 85, Velva, died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva.

Audrey was born November 16, 1916, in Juanita, ND, the daughter of George and Myrtle (Mae) McDaniel. She was raised and educated in Juanita and graduated from high school on May 25, 1932 in Grace City, ND.

On February 24, 1938 she married Benjamin "Bennie" Sloan in Carrington, ND. The couple lived in Velva. Audrey cooked at the Star Lanes bowling alley in Velva for several years and later was employed at Head Start where she worked for a number of years. Benjamin died November 28, 1965. Audrey continued to live in Velva.

She was a very active member of United Methodist Church in Velva.

Survivors: Daughter, Janice Byrnes of Colorado; sons, James (Carolyn) Sloan, Wright, MN, Bruce (Susan) Sloan, Sr, Velva; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brother, Lewis (Viola) McDaniel, Velva; numerous nieces and nephews survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin "Bennie" Sloan; daughter, Rosemary Sloan; son, John Sloan; grandson, Stacy Miller; great-grandson, Donovan Lee Sloan; her parents and one brother and several sisters.

Funeral: Friday, May 10, 2002, at 11:00 a.m., at United Methodist Church, Velva.

Visitation: Thursday, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Velva.

Burial: Velva Community Cemetery, Velva, ND.
