Laymn "Bud" Chris Slavick 1927 - 2011

Laymn Slavick Black and white photoLaymn Chris Slavick, Minot, died peacefully Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at Trinity Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Bud was born on April 24, 1927, a son of Chris and Anna (Miller) Slavick in Minot, ND and was educated within the Minot Public School system.

On February 26, 1946, Bud enlisted into the US Army, where he was active with the medic unit. He received the American Theatre Ribbon, the Meritorious Unit Award and the World War II Victory Ribbon. He was honorably discharged as a Buck Sergeant on August 20, 1947. In May 2011, Bud's service to his country was honored as he was selected as a member of the World War II Veterans Honor Flight.  He considered his trip to Washington, DC and the patriotic welcome back to be one of the proudest moments of his life.  He was a lifelong member of the American Legion Post #26 for over 50 years.

Upon his discharge from the army, Bud began working as an apprentice for Mowbray and Son Plumbing and Heating and soon obtained his journeyman status.  He was a member of the Plumbers and Fitters Local Union #30.  He retired in 1988 after 40 years with the company.Laymn "Bud" Slavick Colored photo

On April 12, 1950, Bud was united in marriage to Virginia Ahmann at St. Leo’s Parish.  Bud's love for his wife was immeasurable.  He was proud of his children and cherished all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Bud liked to hunt, fish, and travel, but he mostly enjoyed sitting on his deck, sipping a cup of coffee, and visiting with his family and many friends. Bud's yard was a reflection of his love for serenity and beauty.

Laymn’s loving family includes wife of 62 years, Virginia; children: Debra (Dennis) Mittlieder, Minot, Linda (Keith) Hanson, Pasco, WA, Rhonda (Kevin) Dunn, Minot,  Lane, Fargo, and former wife, Rhonda Widmayer and her son John Weigel, Moorhead, MN; eight grandchildren: Kyle and Jay Mittlieder, Eric Hanson, Sarah Hanson Cochran, Shannon Dunn Racine, Kasie Dunn Sander, Juliana and Jennifer Slavick; six great-grandchildren: Jeneane and Eowyn Cochran, Evan and Madisyn Racine, Emma and Michael Sander; brother Elroy (Jan) Slavick; sister Deilla Larson and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Laymn was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Maebert Ott, and his brother-in-laws, Duane Larson and Willis Ott.
