Cameron Skarstad 1933- 2011 Cameron Orval Skarstad was born October 15, 1933, a son of Gerhard and Gerda (Kulsethmoe) Skarstad, at their home near Verendrye, ND. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith and was confirmed at Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva. Cam started school at the Howe School, rural Velva, then completed grade school at Voltaire. He had three years of high school at Velva and graduated from high school at Dakota Lutheran in Minot, in 1951. This school meant a great deal to him and he attended almost all of the annual reunions. Following graduation, Cam helped on the farm and then was a driver for City Bakery in Minot. Cameron enlisted in the United States Army on August 15, 1959. He proudly served his country serving most of his time at Ft. Riley, Kansas. He was honorably discharged on August 14, 1963. Following his honorable discharge, Cam was a driver for the Interstate Bus Line, operating out of Minot. He later moved to Seattle, working first for Boeing and then for Gray Line Tours. He then operated CamTire until retiring in 1995 and moving back to Minot. While living in Seattle, Cam was a member of St. Paul of Shorewood Lutheran Church where he served on the church council. In Minot, he was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. In his retirement, Cam was a fan of youth baseball and high school basketball, rarely missing a game. Cam will be missed by his sisters, Barbara (Gordon) Christenson, Bottineau, ND, and Sharon (Rodney) Anderson, Williston, ND; brothers, Norman Skarstad, Fergus Falls, MN, and Gayle (Deb) Skarstad, Rothsay, MN, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Cameron was preceded in death by his parents, and niece, Barbara Gene Christenson. Funeral: Saturday, July 23, 2011, at 9:30 a.m. at Hjerdahl Lutheran Church, Voltaire.
