Philip Skalicky 1918 - 2006 Philip was born on March 8, 1918, the son of Joseph and Sophia (Hruska) Skalicky in Owatonna, MN. He was raised on the family homestead, north of Powers Lake, ND. He attended Sadek Country School. In the fall of 1941, he went to Seattle, WA. On March 25, 1942, he was united in marriage to Laura Olson, in Seattle, WA. They returned to Powers Lake, and began a lifelong occupation of ranching. Philip was a vigilant caretaker of his land and his livestock. He enjoyed checking the cows and pastures, even in his retirement years. Philip was a current member of the St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot, where he was active as a server. He was a life long member of the St. James Catholic Church, Powers Lake, ND, where he served mass. He was active on the Colville Township board and was a life long member of the Knights of Columbus. Philip enjoyed dancing and was a member of the Northwest Polkateers, the Moose Lodge, and the Senior Citizens. He is survived by: Wife of 64 years, Laura, Minot; son, Mark Skalicky, Powers Lake, ND; daughters, Carol (George) Decelles, FairField Glade, TN, Pat (Ross) Salveson, Williston, ND, Marsha (Russ) Rogne, Minot, ND: eight grandchildren; Chad (Katie) Skalicky, Coni (David) Albertson, Troy Skalicky, Craig (Jocie) Salveson, Melissa (Patrick) Opland, Michelle (Chris) Richter, Rachel Rogne and Rebecca Rogne. Four great-grandchildren: Megan, Emily, Ryan Albertson, and Tanner Skalicky. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Philip was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Sophia, brothers and best friends, Joseph and August, sisters, Sophia and Margaret. Visitation: Monday, November 20, 2006 from noon until 7 p.m., at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot Vigil Prayer Service: Monday at 7 p.m. in the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot Mass of Christian Burial: Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot Burial: Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at the St. James Cemetery, Powers Lake, ND. Following the committal service, there will be fellowship for family, friends and neighbors at 3:00 at the St. James Catholic Church, Powers Lake, ND.
