Mabel Simonson • 1925 - 2010 Mabel Hoiland was born on July 1, 1925 a daughter of Daniel J. and Olava (Hilmo) Hoiland on the family farm near Wolseth, ND. She was raised and educated in the Wolseth and Minot areas, graduating from Minot High School in 1943. Following her graduation, she worked at Slorby Photography Studio in Minot for a time. On October 2, 1946, Mabel was united in marriage to Morgan S. Simonson at the Grand Coulee Dam, WA. Following their marriage they lived in WA until the fall of 1947, when they moved to ND. They farmed in Blaisdell before moving to the Glenburn-Wolseth area, farming the Hoiland homestead, which was originated in 1902. In 1981, they moved into Minot. For 26 years, they wintered in Las Vegas, NV. Mabel enjoyed quilting with her church group, knitting for Trinity Auxiliary and volunteered at the annual Norsk Hostfest. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a former member of the Nidaros Lutheran Church of Wolseth, Trinity Lutheran Church of Glenburn and currently a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church. Mabel was also active with the Deering Senior Citizens and the Minot Sons of Norway. Those who shared in her life: Husband of 64 years, Morgan, Minot; sons: Gregory (Pam) Simonson, Minot, Clair (Nancy) Simonson, Glenburn; daughter Dawn (Jim) Evans, Casper, WY; grandchildren: Kyle Simonson, Kara (Keegan) Currie, Sarah (Gavin) Smith, Brock (Robin) Simonson, Megan (Matt) Vaniman, James (Erin) Evans, Kim (Chris) Culross; great-grandchildren: Vincent and Morgan Evans; sister: Joyce (Rod) Shuman, Minot; sister-in-law Alma Simonson, Minot; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Bergetta, Tilda, Palma, Inga , Dora, brothers John, Odin, Roy and Maynard.
