Leo Shull 1911 - 2004

Leo Shull, 93, 3515-10th St. SW, the Brentmoor, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, at his residence, of natural causes.

He was born Feb. 20, 1911, in Sac City, IA, a son of Thomas and Cora (Lane) Shull and was raised and completed his high school there. In 1940, he married Vivian Toomer in Nebraska. He enlisted in the US Army in 1935 and served in Brazil. Following his discharge, after four and one half years, he returned to Nebraska and worked in airway communications using skills he learned while in military service. This work evolved into air traffic control with the Federal Aviation Administration.

He and his family lived in North Platte, Grand Island and Lexington, NE, before moving to Minot in 1955. He remained in the employ of the FAA until his retirement in the 1970's. He and his wife continued to make their home in Minot and spent winters in Yuma, AZ. His wife died in 1996. Several years ago he moved to the Brentmoor.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Minot. At one time he was a ham radio operator and he enjoyed making small furniture pieces.

Survivors: daughters, Peggy Miller and her husband Jeff, Bismarck, Nancy Loomis, Crystal Lake, Ill., and Susan Nickelson and her husband Dan, Spotsylvania, VA; grandchildren, Carmen Miller Purdon, Hans Miller, Brett Loomis, Brannon Mooney and Jesse and Joel Nickelson; great-grandchildren, Leah Nickelson, Grace, Mia and Camille Miller, and Claudia Purdon; a brother Bob, Sac City. His wife, a brother, Arlo, and sister, Wilma Cleveland, preceded him in death.

Memorial Service: Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, at 1:30 p.m. at the Brentmoor.
Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Sac City.

Friends may sign a register at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. and at the Brentmoor for an hour prior to the service.

Memorials may be given to the organ fund at Vincent United Methodist Church, Minot.
