Lottie Luella Shipman 1904 - 2005

Lottie Luella Shipman, 101, Minot, died Friday, April 22, 2005, at a Minot nursing home.

She was born on March 22, 1904, in Velva Township, McHenry County, ND, the daughter of Henry and Jemima (Moug) Kaylor, the fourth of eight children. Lottie attended school at North Prairie School #1 and graduated from Velva High School in 1921. Lottie taught at Dent Hill School near Willman, ND, from the fall of 1922, until the spring of 1924.

In the fall of 1924, Lottie taught at North Prairie School #3 until November 26, 1924, when she married Charles Vernon Shipman. The couple farmed in North Prairie Township from 1924, until 1931. From 1931, until 1938, they farmed in the Norwich area. The couple moved to the Shipman Homestead in 1938, where they raised their five children. Vernon passed away in 1959, and Lottie remained on the homestead until 1998.

Lottie was an active member of the Eastern Star, Granville Chapter #47 since the 1940's, where she served as Worthy Matron several times. She was a member of the North Prairie Lutheran Church and was always active in community affairs. Lottie enjoyed gardening, entertaining and playing cards especially whist. Her home was always open to friends and relatives alike.

Survivors: son, Wayne (Arlene) Shipman, Minot, daughters, Peggy DeBernardi, Huntington Beach, CA and Jeanette (Don) Brayton, Woodland Park, CO; 14 grandchildren; thirty three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon, son, Marvin, daughter, Beverly Newman, her parents, three brothers, four sisters and sons-in-law, Lou DeBernardi and Ralph Newman.

Funeral Service: Monday, April 25, 2005, at 2 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, Granville, ND.

Eastern Star Prayer Service: Sunday, April 24, 2005, at 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Visitation: Sunday, April 24, 2005, from Noon until 5 p.m. the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Burial: Granville Community Cemetery, Granville.
