Frances Shafer 1910 - 2003 She was born November 1, 1910, in Berwick, ND, to Adam and Bergetta (Brendal) Wormsbecker. She was the second oldest of seven children whom she helped to raise after the death of her mother when Frances was 15 years old. She attended school in Berwick and in August of 1929 she married Fred Shafer. They lived in the Bantry area where they raised their seven children. They farmed and raised cattle and for many years had the milk delivery business for Bantry. In 1956, they moved to Towner so the two youngest girls could attend high school. Frances worked at Johner's café during those years. In 1960 Fred and Frances moved back to the farm. Together they operated a bar in Upham. For 11 years Frances worked as a domestic engineer in the homes of officers at the Minot Air Force Base. In 1983 they moved to Minot. Fred passed away in November of 1984. Frances then returned to the farm that spring where she lived for a short time before moving back to Minot where she has since resided. She has been living at Trinity Homes for the past four years. Frances' hands were always busy. She enjoyed baking and preparing meals for her large family and continued to enjoy that as the family grew to include grandchildren and great grandchildren. Many memories are shared at the family picnics held at the farm in Bantry. Frances loved to do crafts and enjoyed going to the various craft fairs and flea markets-often sharing a table with a daughter or two. Many members of her family have a quilt that was pieced together by her or have afghans that she made.
