Richard Severson 1931 - 2011 Richard Erlan Severson was born on September 29, 1931, a son of Francis and Mabel (Ohnsauger) Severson on the family farm, near Berthold, ND. He moved with his family into Minot and graduated from Minot High School in 1949. On April 17, 1952, Richard was drafted into the United States Marine Corps, one of only 1300 men ever drafted into the Marine Corps. He proudly served his country until his honorable discharge on April 16, 1954. Following his discharge, Richard began working for Red Owl in the meat department. Richard was united in marriage to Wanda Snyder on November 5, 1955 in Minot, ND. They made their home in Minot, where Richard was the Meat Manager for Red Owl, a position he held for twenty years. In 1971, Richard started S & K Processing, located south of Minot. In September of 1974, Wanda passed away. He continued to operate the meat shop and raised the family’s six sons and three daughters. Richard enjoyed hunting and riding horse. He was active as sponsor of the S & K Processing softball teams from 1978-1990. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Richard is survived by: Children: Kimberly (James) Berdahl, Vicki (Lawrence) Azure, Richard Severson Jr., Rory Severson, Greg (Michele) Severson, Stuart (Rebecca) Severson, Kyia (Edward) Whiteman, Paul (Joan) Severson, Brady (Fiancée Wendy) Severson; grandchildren: Justin (Jessica) Myers, Preston (Angie) Dean, Mandy (Randy) Bracken, Jessica Dean, Bailey and Brandy, Stephenie, Hannah, Carleen, Amanda and Samuel Severson, Ryan, Rhonda, Rhaine, and Rachel Whiteman; eight great-grandchildren: Ashley, Matthew, Jeremy and Lucas Bracken, Brandon Dean andBrayden Santini, Urijah and Taylor Myers; brother Harley Severson; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, wife Wanda Jo, brothers John, Bunk and Fred and a great grandson Johnathon Bracken.
