Duane F. Severson 1930- 2005 Duane F. "Fred" Severson, 74, Everett, WA, and formerly of Berthold and Minot, ND, died Friday, May 27, 2005, in his home. Duane Frederick Severson was born on June 8, 1930, the son of Francis and Mable (Ohnsager) Severson in Blaisdale, North Dakota. He was raised and educated in Berthold and Minot. As a young man he was a silver glove boxer. He started working for the Great Northern/Burlington Northern Railroad in 1948. Fred was married to Eldora Oja. They made their home in Minot. They were later divorced. Fred met Phyllis (Scott) Dart while he was bartending in Burlington. They were married on April 12, 1964, in Williston, ND. They made their home in Minot for a short time before moving to Everett, Washington, in 1967. He transferred with the railroad and retired as a Carman on May 29, 1992, after 44 years. He was active in the Operation Stop Program and upon retiring received an award for his service. Following his retirement, Fred and Phyllis wintered in Yuma, Arizona. They wintered there until Phyllis became ill. He was a member of a bowling league in Everett. Fred loved horses. He was an excellent horseman, and had even jockeyed for a while. He also enjoyed fishing in the Puget Sound. He especially enjoyed the amazing view he had from the sunroom in his house, which overlooks the Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains. Surviving family includes: daughter: Darley (Sidney) Williams of Minot; stepdaughters: Shelley Dart of Everett, WA; Daphne (Robert) Ward of New Brunswick, Canada; step-son: Gregory Dart (Kathy Picht) of Seattle, WA; grandsons: Chad Williams and Cory (Hallie) Williams; Michael and James Needham; Theodore and Todd Severson; Anthony "Tony" and Bradford (Tressa) Solem; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers: Richard "Dick" Severson of Minot; Harlan (Joyce) Severson of Cedar Rapids, IA; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Fred was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Phyllis;
son, Timothy Severson; step-son, Bradford Dart; brothers, Leon
