Richard Dean Semchenko 1946 - 2003

Richard Dean Semchenko, 57, Max, ND, died Sunday, October 26, 2003, near Max.

Richard was born October 10, 1946, in Minot, ND, the son of Matt and Stacia (Bovkoon) Semchenko. He was raised on the family farm north of Max, where he resided until his death.

Richard graduated from Max High School and in 1962 began farming with his dad. In 1968 he took over the farming operation following his father's death. On November 15, 1969, Richard married Rita Nett at St. John's Catholic Church in Lansford, ND. They made their home on the family farm north of Max.

Richard was a life-long member of Hope Lutheran Church, Sawyer, ND. He was a member of Max Farm Services since 1981, where he held the positions of director and vice president. He was amazingly talented in the musical department. Starting in grade school Richard won many awards in music competitions. He sang solos, and also sang duets with his dad. He was a self-taught musician and could play the piano, guitar and trumpet.

Richard had many friends, whom he enjoyed spending time with. His wife, children and grandchildren were very important to him, along with his many pets. The time he spent on his hobbies of woodworking and lawn care, were enjoyed by all. The projects he made out of nothing turned into memories for his grandchildren that will last forever. He was an avid hunter and marksmen. His life was taken from us while he was doing something he enjoyed. While we all mourn his loss, it gives us some comfort knowing that he spent his last moments doing what he enjoyed. His love of practical jokes will bring us many smiles. Richard wasn't a man of many words, but his thoughtfulness and caring was shown through his many acts of love.
