Alvin "Al" E. Schweitzer 1925 - 2003

Alvin "Al" E. Schweitzer, 77, Kenmare, died Friday, January 17, 2003, in a Fort Meade VA hospital, Fort Meade SD.

Alvin was born May 25, 1925, in Tolley, ND, the son of Alfred and Mabel (Mattern) Schweitzer. He was raised and educated near the Tolley and Norma areas. Following school he farmed until he entered the military service. While serving in the Army during the Korean Conflict he received several medals.

Alvin married Adeline Schmitz in Kenmare, ND, where they raised their five children. He worked with gravel and hardware products until he became employed by Geigers Brothers in Kenmare. While employed there he earned a degree in diesel mechanics. He then became foreman with missile installations for Peter Kieweits and Morrison Knutson. He was last employed by S&H Construction where injuries occurred leading to his disability and retirement.

His interests included gardening, rock collecting and stone jewelry. He also enjoyed attending rock and gem shows, flea markets and listening to old music.

Alvin was a member of several rock and gem organizations, the American Legion, Amvets, Veterans of Foreign Wars, WWII Last Mans Club and the Trinity Lutheran Church in Kenmare.

Survivors: Sons, Arlin (Pamela) Schweitzer, Minot, Arvin Schweitzer, Neosho, MO, and Alden "Jeff" (Julie) Schweitzer, Kenmare; daughters, Alene (Bill) Brazell, Hermosa, SD, and Angelia (Todd) Mathe, Plover, WI; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Eleanor Davies, Neosho, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial Service: Tuesday, January 28, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Kenmare.

There will be no reviewal, cremation has taken place. Friends may sign the register prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

Burial: Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Kenmare in the spring.
