Gladys J. Schwartz 1914- 2006 She was born on December 11, 1914, in Bowbells, ND, the daughter of Jonas and Hilda Knudson. She attended Columbus High School and continued her education at Minot Business College and Minot State Teachers College where she received a two year Teaching Standard certificate. Gladys taught school for three years in Spencer Township, where she met and married Earl Schwartz on June 27, 1943, in Columbus, ND. Earl and Gladys made their home on the Schwartz homestead west of Kenaston, where they resided for most of their 50 years together. Gladys served on the Board of Regents at Minot State College and the Ward County Library Board. She was active and very much enjoyed being a member of the Village Neighbor Homemakers, Rebekkah Lodge, Elmdale Lutheran Church, WELCA, and Birthday Club. Gladys also enjoyed bowling, participating in numerous leagues and tending to her garden, yard and flowers. Gladys made her family first priority and was a spectator to many of her children and grandchildren's activities. She attended the Norsk Hostfest every year in an effort to celebrate her Norwegian Heritage. A few months following Earl's death on February 13, 2001, she moved to Somerset Assisted Living in Minot, where she made new friends and memories. In July of 2005, she moved to Alterra Memory Care Facility at North Oaks, MN, to be nearer to her daughter, Kara. Survivors: daughters, Kay (Ray) York, and Kathy (Bob) Mau, all of Kenmare, and Kara (Mike) Johnson, Shoreview, MN; grandchildren, Jarvis York, Jardy (Brian) Day, Cassandra Mau, Brekka (Jason) Greff, Joanna (Michael) Brekhus, Erin (Chris) Greenberg, Andy Mau, Jenica (Jim) Jackson, and Tressa, Tyson, and Tali Johnson; great-grandchildren, Isaac and Ivan Day; and sister, Ruth Strom, Minot. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Earl and her parents. Funeral Service: Monday, August 14, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Kenmare with Pastor Dan Paulson officiating. Visitation: Sunday, August 13, 2006, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Kenmare. Burial: Lakeview Cemetery, Kenmare. Officiant; Rev.
