Eleanor "Ella" Schwartzenberger, 83, Minot, died Tuesday, October 23, 2007, in a Minot nursing home.

Ella was born on December 27, 1923, in Napoleon, ND, the daughter of Ludwig and Elizabeth (Masseth) Mitzel. She was reared and educated in Napoleon and graduated from Napoleon High School in 1943.

Ella married Sebastian "Joe" Schwartzenberger in 1944 in Napoleon, ND. While living in Napoleon Ella made many good friends, taught school for several years and was Deputy Sheriff in Logan County. She cooked for many different functions including: funerals, weddings and legion meetings.

Ella and Joe moved to Minot in 1963, where Joe worked for Cooks Plumbing and Heating until he passed away in 1980. Ella worked for the Minot City Assessors Office until their office closed. She then went to work for Super Value as a bookkeeper where she worked until 1969, when the big flood hit Minot and the store didn't reopen. Ella went to work at North Hill Bowl where she helped form leagues and run tournaments. She later became involved with junior bowlers and became a certified coach forming numerous leagues until her retirement. Ella received many awards through the years for her bowling and in 1983 was inducted into the Minot Hall of Fame and in 1998 she was inducted into the North Dakota Hall of Fame.

She was elected to the North Dakota State Board of Bowling where she served for over 13 years; six of which were as Sgt. of Arms. While serving she received Secretary of the years award, Reporter of the year and the Marian Armey Award. She was chosen Mystery Lady in 1999, and received a plaque for 25 years of outstanding service and was named Member Emeritus. Ella was very happy to be working with the members of the State Board. Her comments were that they were a very hard working board and all very knowledgeable. She served as the City Association Secretary for many years.

Ella owned and operated her own ceramic shop in her home for over 30 years. She ran a good business and met many new people and made lasting friends.

She was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church, Minot where she served on the parish council for six years, was active with the Ladies Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters. She served as a Homebound minister, Eucharistic minister and helped distribute communion at St. Joseph's Hospital in Minot. Ella also helped cook numerous funeral lunches at Little Flower Catholic Church.

Ella loved to write poetry, do crossword puzzles and read. Ella's crafts were number one and she always kept herself busy.

Survivors: daughters, Linda (Bobby) McLendon, Pinson, AL, Helen (Sheldon) James, Beaverton, MI, Lucy (Wayne) Tuttle, Minot, Colette (Bruce) Zietz, Bemidji, MN; son, Steve Schwartzenberger, Pell City, Al; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Haugland, Bismarck, Marvie (Anton) Becker, Bismarck, Diana (Larry) Wangler, Madison, MN; brother, Mike (Donna) Mitzel, Indianapolis, IN; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years Joe, two daughters, two grandsons, her parents, stepmother, two sisters and five brothers.

Mass of Christian Burial: Friday, October 26, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at Little Flower Catholic Church, Minot

Visitation and Prayer Service: Thursday, October 25, 2007, from Noon until 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot

Due to traffic concerns only the immediate family will be processing to the cemetery. If you wish to attend the graveside service you may join the family at the cemetery for the final prayers.

Immediately following the graveside service everyone is invited to join the family at the Knights of Columbus located at 2601 North Broadway, Minot for fellowship and lunch.
