Lawrence William Schumacher was born September 17, 1930, a son of Frank and Marie (Hoffman) Schumacher, on the family farm located in west of Kenmare, ND. He was raised on the farm and educated in Kenmare. He graduated from Kenmare High School in 1948.

Following his high school graduation, he sought work with a survey crew in Kenmare and the surrounding areas.

Lawrence enlisted in the United States Air Force November 14, 1951. He proudly served his country during the Korean War and was honorably discharged November 13, 1955.

Following his honorable discharge, he began his career with MDU. He started out in the office as a clerk, then as a lineman, later in the drafting department, and finally worked as a meter reader. After working there for several years, he retired.

He was an active member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Kenmare, where he served as an altar server during funeral masses. He was also a member of the Clarence McCormack American Legion Post #195 of Donnybrook, and the Knights of Columbus in Kenmare.  

Surviving family includes:  brothers, Frank (Adeline) Schumacher, Kalispell, MT, James Schumacher, Kenmare, and Luke Schumacher, Kenmare; sisters, Hilda Weaver, Chinook, MT, and Margaret (Burt) Olson, Minot; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Marie Schumacher; an infant sister,  Agnes Schumacher; sisters, Mary Russell and Dorothy Hanrahan; and brother, Joseph Shumacher.

Mass of Christian Burial: Friday, July 22, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Kenmare.

Interment:
  St. Agnes Catholic Cemetery, Kenmare, ND.

Visitation:
Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Kenmare.

Vigil Prayer Service
: Thursday at 7 p.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Kenmare.
