Frances Theresa Schollmeyer 1938 - 2010 Fran married Albert Schollmeyer at Dunn Center on December 30, 1938 in Minot. They were together 59 years, until his passing in 1997. After moving to Minot, Albert eventually became a successful business man; however, in their early years together Fran and Albert had little, much like many others in the 1930s and 1940s. Weekend entertainment was home spun in their shared upstairs apartment: sometimes a fiddler, some dancing and, not the least, playing cards with friends. Children quickly filled Fran’s life. A homemaker and mother of nine, Fran was known for her ability to cook for her six tall, hungry boys, and was still feeding mountains of food to her last three children (all daughters) after most of the boys left home. It was good practice for family reunions. She continued her labors at her “vacation” home on Rice Lake cooking for many visitors, along with vegetable and flower gardening. Fran’s family and friends will never forget her caramel rolls, chicken and cream gravy, apple pie, her home grown raspberries, or her beautiful gardens. “Let no one go hungry,” could have been Fran’s motto. Fran’s faith was woven into her everyday life. She was a devout parishioner of St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Minot. She proudly served in the Christian Mothers, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and the Serra Club, where she made life-long friends. Fran came from humble beginnings and stayed humble, but she was also outgoing and always enjoyed a good laugh. Never a complainer, she was a model of kindness, but not so much when she played cards: She loved “friendly” competition in bridge and pinochle. Fran’s children believe she is, at this moment, giving Albert a go at pinochle, while her dad, Pete, and some of her brothers are waiting to play the next round. Fran’s family is grateful to her personal care attendants, Yovana, and Judy, the staff and physical therapists at ManorCare, and not least, children Marge and John and their families for the day to day attention and care. Fran is survived by eight of her children: Richard (Sharlene) Vancouver, WA, William (Virginia) Chandler, AZ, Michael (Bonnie), Maple Grove, MN, James (Debby), Salem, OR, John (Sue), Minot, Mary (Bill Johnson) St. Paul, MN, Marjorie (Paul Temanson), Minot, Jeanne (John Launceford), Seattle, WA, as well as 20 grandchildren, 19 great grand children, and her siblings, Joan, Bob, Ted, Jim, Tilly, and Lawrence.
