Palma Schoenwald 1922 - 2006 Palma Margaret Sand was born August 20, 1922, the daughter of Tory and Carrie (Carlsten) Sand in Minot, ND. She was raised on a farm in what was known as the Drady community southwest of Minot. She graduated from Minot High School in 1941. Palma married Lawrence E. Schoenwald on September 15, 1946. They made their home in Minot where she worked at the Clerk of District Court Office for many years. She retired in 1987. Lawrence passed away on September 30, 1989. Palma was a devoted wife and mother. She and Lawrence provided a home where the five children were encouraged to reach out and pursue opportunities. Palma believed in hard work and no one escaped the basics of housework, yard work, and common sense principles. She lived a full life, filled with family, friends, community, and travel. Palma was a woman of strong faith which was displayed in all of her actions. She was proud of her lifelong involvement in Bethany Lutheran Church. She was also proud of her Norwegian heritage, her family, and being a North Dakotan. She had a quick smile that she would offer easily, along with a cup of coffee, to those she met. She had a gift with children; many would seek her out to play, visit, or sit on her lap. She was blessed with many friendships along her journey in life. Her loving family includes: children, Larry Schoenwald and wife, Jean of Sawyer; Bruce Schoenwald and wife, Becky of Fargo; Julie Markiewicz and husband, Ed of Longmont, CO; Kristi Wilkerson and husband, Vic of Portland, OR; and Kari Schoenwald of Longmont, CO; grandchildren, Ross Schoenwald and wife, Michelle of Bismarck; Tara Vesey and husband, Kevin of Baldwin; Samuel Schoenwald of Fargo; Brian Markiewicz of Greeley, CO; Tory Markiewicz and Ian Markiewicz of Longmont, CO; Jesse Wilkerson and Bailey Wilkerson of Portland, OR; great grandchild Chris Schoenwald of Bismarck; brothers Arnold Sand of Minot; Carl Sand and wife Helen of Minot; sister Evelyn Chambers of Minot; and several nieces and nephews.
