Gladys Schoenwald 1915 - 2008 Gladys Edna Larson was born March 20, 1915, a daughter of Lars C. and Thea L. (Erickson) Larson, on their family farm in Ward County, just outside Hartland, ND. She was raised and educated in Hartland. Gladys married Carl M. Hagen in 1933. From this union, two children were born, a son, Gary and a daughter, Dixie. The couple were later divorced. In 1948, she married Walter R. Schoenwald. They made their home in Minot, where she operated a small ice cream shop after doing several years of waitress work. She then attended Waller's Business College in Minot, and became a bookkeeper and office worker. She had worked for Sunset Memorial Gardens in Minot for 12 years before moving to California. Walt and Gladys lived in California for 23 years. She worked as a payroll clerk and office secretary for a large manufacturing plant until retiring in 1980. In 1989, they returned to Minot, ND. After she lost Walt, the "love of her life", in 1993, she continued to live at 9 Greenway, and tend his garden. In 1999, she moved into Edgewood Vista, where she played her favorite card game of Skip-bo every afternoon. In 2007, she moved to Trinity Homes in Minot. Gladys was a member of First Lutheran Church, Minot. Her loving family includes: son, Gary C. (Lou) Hagen, Texas; daughter, Dixie D. Walker, California; step son, Donald (Mary) Schoenwald, Georgia; step daughter-in-law, Ione Schoenwald, California; grandchildren, Lori (Mark) Holzer, Tami Schoenwald, Kurt (Theresa) Schoenwald, Jane (Tim) Butler, Mark (Terri) Schoenwald, and Susan (Tom) Watts; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Arlene (Lynn) Stockdill, Donnybrook, ND; and nieces and nephews. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walt; granddaughter, Lisa Mardell Walker; step son, Walter Schoenwald; brothers, Harry, James, and Arthur Larson; sisters, Luella Hanson, Millie Morse, and Selma Skaar. Funeral: Tuesday, December 30, 2008, at 10:30 a.m.
