Ted was born on January 20, 1922, near Max, ND, the son of Martin and Magdelena (Huber) Schnaible. He was baptized and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church in Max. Ted worked on the family farm and in 1938, graduated from the 8th grade in Max, ND. From 1938 to 1944, he worked as a grain farmer for Charles Schultz at Towner, ND. Ted entered the United States Army on June 27, 1944. He was honorably discharged from the Army on May 4, 1946. During that time he was an Instructor at Camp Croft, SC and Ft. Benning, GA. After returning to Minot, Ted, Sally, Ron, and Grandma Johnson lived in Minot near Roosevelt Park. From 1947 to August of 1950 he was an auto service manager at Main Motors, Inc. in Minot. During the Korean Conflict he once again answered his country's call to active duty in the Army. From September 4, 1950, until January 8, 1952, he served at Camp McCoy in Sparta, WI and in Pusan, Korea. For his service in Korea he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Korean Service Medal. Ted returned to Minot and continued to work at Main Motors, Inc. and serve in the United States Army Reserve. He later had his own used car lot at the foot of North Hill. After completing Carnegie Institute Course he embarked on a career in real estate. Ted sold both residential and commercial properties until his retirement in 1985. Ted was active in the community as a member of Augustana Lutheran Church, the Elks, Eagles Aerie, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Souris Valley Golf Course all of Minot. On June 21, 1968, Ted married Regna (Preskey) Stebleton and the couple made their home in northwest Minot for many years. Regna passed away on October 22, 1989. During the winter months Ted could be found bowling at North Hill Bowl where he competed in numerous leagues. In the summer months you could always find Ted at the Souris Valley Golf Course walking 18 holes Monday thru Friday. He last walked 18 holes in October of 2004, just a day before Souris closed. His most memorable round of golf was on October 23, 1992, when he hit a seven wood on the 140-yard 4th hole for a hole-in-one. He had the ball and scorecard on his nightstand up until the time of his death. After he walked the 18 holes, he would then tend to his yard work at home.
