Marvin Schnabel 1935 - 2007

Marvin Schnabel, 71, Upham, ND, died Thursday, April 19, 2007, in a Minot hospital.

Marvin was born August 17, 1935, the son of Robert and Hulda (Amon) Schnabel on the family farm west of Upham, ND. He was raised on the Schnabel family farm and attended a country school in the area. As a young adult, he assisted his parents with the operation of the family farm. He was baptized and confirmed at Peace Reformed Church of Upham.

Marvin was united in marriage to Arlene Haldi October 2, 1955, at First Congregational Church, Minot. They made their home on a farm located one mile north of his parents farmstead in Deep River Township of McHenry County, rural Upham, ND. Together they farmed small grains and raised livestock, chickens, and sheep. He farmed for over 35 years, retiring in the mid 1980's. In 2005, he and Arlene celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Throughout his life he had been a member of the North American Fishing Club, and the National Home Gardening Club.

Marvin was an avid hunter and fisherman. For many years, he had a large garden and was known to have fresh vegetables for sale in the mid to late summer months. He enjoyed playing cards and marbles with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren.

Surviving family includes:
wife of 51½ years, Arlene, Upham; sons, Terri (Shiloh) Schnabel, Glencoe, MN; and Gary (Tam) Schnabel, Kalispell, MT; daughter, Becky Schnabel Danskin and her special friend, Mike Anderson, Souris, ND; seven grandchildren, Cody and Serrina Schnabel; Nikki, Adam, and Evan Danskin; Galen and Nathan Schnabel; five step grandchildren, Jessica, Stacy, Jeremy, Steven (Rachelle), and Justin Kornkven; step great-granddaughter, Kay Cee Jo Kornkven; and several nieces and nephews.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Hulda Schnabel; and his brother, Floyd Schnabel.

Funeral: Monday, April 23, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at New Hope Lutheran Church, Upham.

Interment: Monday at 2:00 pm at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot, ND.

Visitation: Sunday from Noon to 5 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
