Arliene E. Schmitz 1924 - 2007 She was born on July 31, 1924, in Des Lacs, ND, the daughter of Clarence and Ruth (Gronquist) Hanson. She was reared and educated in Des Lacs and graduated from Minot High School. She married Alvin J. Schmitz on August 19, 1944, in Sidney, MT. The couple lived by Des Lacs, in 1947 moved to Minot, and in 1961, they moved to rural Burlington, ND, where Arliene worked as the City Auditor. In 1975, they moved to Minot, where Arliene and Alvin owned and operated the Siesta Motel located on East Burdick Expressway. Alvin died on March 7, 1994, in Minot. Arliene continued to run the motel until 2002, when she sold it and moved to Grand Forks. In January of 2007, she entered the Tufte Manor where she lived until her death. Arliene was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church and a former member of Bethany Lutheran Church both in Minot. She was also a member of the Moose Lodge Auxiliary in Minot. Survivors: sons, Donald (Doreen) Schmitz, Boerne, TX and Ronald Schmitz, Minot; daughters, Diane Jenson and her special friend Terry Davidson, Minot, Renae (John) Bridewell, Grand Forks, ND and Debbie Standifer, Boise, ID; 9 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother, Donald (Marlys) Hanson, Minneapolis, MN; sisters, Verona (Gordon) Storbakken, Woodbury, MN and Irma Anderson, Des Moines, WA; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin, her parents, Clarence and Ruth, granddaughter, Amy Standifer, brothers, Everett and Ervin Hanson and sister, Katherine Tappen. Funeral Service: Monday, August 13, 2007, at 2 p.m.
