Patricia Rose Schmidt 1906 - 2004
Patricia Rose Schmidt, 97, 1921 Hiawatha St., Minot, died
Sunday, September 26, 2004, at her home.
She was born October 28, 1906, in Forfar, ND, the daughter of
Nickolas and Anna Jane (Davis) Behm. She was reared and educated
in Forfar.
On July 3, 1928, Patricia married Lawrence A. Schmidt at St.
Leo's Catholic Church in Minot. Patricia also worked for Brays
Cleaners as a seamstress and later Montgomery Wards as a Department
Manager. On May 1, 1945, the couple purchased 10 acres of land
southeast of Minot where they later built Pat's Motel and Campgrounds.
Lawrence and Patricia owned and operated the motel and campgrounds
for a number of years. In the summer of 1979, the couple retired.
Lawrence died on January 6, 1980.
Patricia was an excellent seamstress, sewing anything from men's
suits and coats to children's clothing. She crocheted afghans
and doilies until she could no longer hold the crochet hooks.
Over the years she made numerous wreaths and decorations for
family and friends. Patricia was very devoted to Mary the Blessed
Mother and was also honored with a plaque from Father Matt Walsh
from the Shrine of St. Jude in Chicago, IL, for her devotion
to St. Jude Thaddeus.
She was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot and was
active with the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She was also
a member of the Motel and Campgrounds Association in Minot.
Survivors: sons, Lawrence E. Schmidt, and Cecil J. (Adeline)
Schmidt, all of Minot; daughters, Jane (Dudley) Torgerson, Bismarck,
ND, Patricia Schmidt, Minot, Judann M. (Dr. Frank) Guttman, Madison,
WI and Celesta R. (Dr. Robert) Mullen, Westminster, CO; 22 grandchildren;
31 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brother,
Leo Behm, Bremerton, WA; sister, Agatha Willis, Pascal, WA. She
was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence, daughter, Veronica
Dattola, grandson, Greg Torgerson, and grandson and his family,
Charles, Debbie and Bryanna Mullen, daughter-in-law, Marie (Rodgers)
Schmidt, brothers, Neiman, John, and Emmet Behm, and sisters,
Elizabeth Dixon, Sister Mary Serafica Behm, Anna Jane Buettner,
and Veronica Jones
Mass of Christian Burial: Thursday, September 30, 2004
at 11 a.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot.
Visitation: Wednesday, September 29, 2004, from Noon until
6 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot
Rosary Recitation and Prayer Service: Wednesday, September
29, 2004, at 7 p.m. at the church.
Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
