Ethel Bachmeier Schmidt 1914 - 2003

Ethel Bachmeier Schmidt, 88, Velva, died Saturday, February 8, 2003 at a Velva care center.

Ethel was born November 14, 1914, near Orrin, ND, the daughter of Ignatius and Adelaide (Lauinger) Bachmeier. She was reared and educated in Orrin.

She married Milton A. Schmidt on October 4, 1933, at Balfour, ND. After their marriage the couple lived in the Voltaire area. Milton died August 6, 1990, in Minot.

She was an active member of Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva and its ALCW group. She was also a member of the Velva Senior Citizens and the Voltaire Homemakers Club.

Survivors; daughter, Lavon Holte (Dale), Voltaire; sons, Melvin L. Schmidt (Margaret), Minot; Merle Schmidt (Nancy), Desoto, TX; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Jean Bachmeier, and Rosemary Kirchofner, both Minot; three brothers, Henry, San Francisco, CA, George, Mannasas, WV and Ben Bachmeier, San Diego, CA; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Milton, one infant grandchild, Jody Marie Schmidt, two sisters, Irene Wangler and Ann Tuchscherer; four brothers, Ned, Anton, Peter and Thomas Bachmeier.

Funeral Service: Thursday, February 13, 2003 at 11 a.m. at Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva.

Visitation: Tuesday, February 12, 2003 from Noon until 5 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot and Wednesday, February 13, 2003, from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Velva.

Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, rural Minot. Burial Thursday, February 13, 2003 at 2 p.m.
