Arlene Schmidt • 1942 - 2003 Arlene Schmidt, 61, 304 2nd Ave., Burlington, ND, died Thursday, June 19, 2003, at her home. Arlene was born on March 10, 1942, in Norma, North Dakota, the daughter of Nels and Alice (Haggen) Jensen. She was raised in Norma and attended school at Dakota Lutheran School in Kenmare and graduated from Kenmare High School in 1960. She moved to Minot with her sister, Ione, and lived with her until her marriage to Merlyn Schmidt on December 26, 1964, in Kenmare. They lived in Minot until 1971, when they moved to Burlington where she resided until her death. Before her marriage, she worked in a bank and after her marriage she began her life-long career as a child-care provider in her home. Her husband, Merlyn, preceded her in death on February 6, 1983. Arlene devoted her life to her husband, children, babysitting kids, family, friends and her beloved cats. Arlene was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Burlington, where she served as treasurer of the church for many years and also served on the church council. Arlene is survived by sons, Lanny Schmidt and his wife, Bella, Malabo, Equatorial Guinea; Ken Schmidt and his wife, Kimberly, St. Paul, Minnesota; and Rob Schmidt and his wife, Jennifer, Fort Walton Beach, Florida; three grandchildren, Melki Schmidt, Jackson Schmidt and Jayda Schmidt; brothers, Nels Jensen and his wife, Nelda, Arlington, Texas; Neil Jensen and his wife, Julie, Las Vegas, Nevada; sister, Ione Banna, and her husband, Dick, Kalispell, Montana; brothers and sisters-in-law, Harley and Gloria Schmidt, Minot, Harris Hanson, Minot and Rick and Sandie Schmidt, Shelby, Montana. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Merlyn Schmidt, son, Jack Schmidt and sister-in-law, Thelva Hanson. Funeral: Peace Lutheran Church, Burlington, ND on Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at 1 p.m. Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND on Tuesday, June 24, 2003 at 3:30 p.m. Visitation: Monday, from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the Thompson Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND.
