Ruth Schmeichel 1921 - 2003

Ruth Schmeichel, 81, 1423 S. Main, Minot, ND, died Saturday, February 1, 2003, in a Minot hospital of cancer.

She was born on March 30, 1921, in Sawyer, ND, the daughter of William and Magdalena (Mittlieder) Sutter. She attended school in the Sawyer area. She married Clarence W. Schmeichel on October 29, 1944, in Sawyer, ND. They moved to Minot in 1946. She was a homemaker and was involved with her children as they went through school. Her husband and soul mate died on June 30, 1990. She continued to live in Minot until the time of her death.

Ruth attended Immanuel Baptist Church, Minot. Some of the best times of her life were spent at the lake with her family and friends. Ruth was known for her witty and humorous ways at family gatherings and social get-togethers. No one was immune from her practical jokes and pranks. She knew how to celebrate the joyous occasions in life and bring gentleness and comfort to others in more difficult times.

Survivors: Sons, Milo Schmeichel and companion Deb Walcker, Minot, and Tom Schmeichel and wife Jackie, Baldwin, ND; daughter, Gail Bickler and husband Kelly, Minot; seven grandchildren, Jared and Ryan Bickler, Michele Hagen, Wendy and Ty Schmeichel, Shane and Flint Schmeichel; sister, Esther Torvik and husband Bud, Minot, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her husband, parents, seven brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

Funeral Service: Tuesday, February 4, 2003, 2:30 p.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church, Minot, ND

Visitation: Monday, February 3, 2003, from Noon to 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND

Burial: Rosehill memorial Park, Minot, ND
