Frances Magdelena Schmaltz
1922 - 2003 Frances Magdelena Schmaltz, 81, Minot, died Wednesday, December 31, 2003 in a Minot nursing home. She was born on January 14, 1922, on the family farmstead northwest of Balfour, ND, the daughter of Michael and Caroline (Brossart) Schmaltz. She was educated in a one room school house in Odin Township, McHenry County, northwest of Balfour. Frances worked with her folks on the family farm till 1939, when she moved to Bottineau and was employed at St. Andrews Hospital. In 1949, Frances moved to Minot and worked at Woolworth's. In 1955, she went to work as a general ledger clerk at what was First International Bank and is now known as Wells Fargo in Minot. Frances retired in 1982. Survivors: sisters, Katherine Lukach, Minot and Sophie Kuntz, Drake, ND; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Marie Eva Schmaltz and Caroline Schmaltz. She was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Prime America and Silver Connection all of Minot. Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, January 3, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. atOur Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot. Prayer Service: Friday, January 2, 2004, at 7:30 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home. Visitation: Friday, January 2, 2004 from 2 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
