Elizabeth Volk-Schiele, 96, Velva, died Saturday, March 10, 2007 in the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva.

Elizabeth was born June 19, 1910 in Blumenfeld, ND to John and Angeline (Duchscherer) Kuntz. She was raised and educated in a rural area of Blumenfeld. She was a hired hand to area farms in her teenage years.

On June 8, 1929, she married Casper Volk. They lived on a farm in Blumenfeld until 1942 and then moved to a farm south of Karlsruhe until 1948. In 1948 they moved to Velva where Elizabeth worked in area cafes. They moved to a farm south of Bergen in 1953. In 1958 they moved to Minot and on November 18, 1958, her husband Casper passed away.

In 1959, she married Ludwig Schiele. They lived in Karlsruhe until he died in 1977. In 1977 she moved to Minot where she lived until April of 1993, when she moved to Velva. She moved into the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva on December 20, 1996.

Elizabeth was a faithful Christian. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Blumenfeld, Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Karlsruhe, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Balfour, St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot and St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Velva. She was a member of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in Karlsruhe and the Minot Eagle's Auxiliary. In earlier years she enjoyed quilting and made many quilts throughout the years. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo.

Survivors: Children, Rose Schatz, Velva, Caroline (Bill) Shuler, Great Falls, MT, Regina (Rod) Dow, Springfield, OR, Angeline (Jerry) Power, Vacaville, CA, Joseph (Judi) Volk, Honolulu, Hawaii; 22 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great grandchildren; stepdaughters, Elizabeth Volk and Anna Marie (Lawrence) Mack, all of Minot, Magdaline (Tony) Mack and Rosie (Victor) Bishop, all of Karlsruhe; stepsons, Henry (Lucille) Schiele, Minot, Jerome (Bernadine) Schiele, Karlsruhe, Mike (Ann) Schiele and Francis (Arlene) Schiele, all of Drake, and Louie (Rita) Schiele, Karlsruhe; numerous step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and step great-great grandchildren also survive; brothers, Paul (Rose) Kuntz, Martin Kuntz, and Gabriel (Jean) Kuntz, all of Great Falls, MT; sisters-in-law, Tillie Kuntz and Theresa Kuntz, both of Minot; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husbands, Casper Volk and Ludwig Schiele; sons, Edward and Gabriel Volk; son-in-law, Edmund A. Schatz; step-daughter, Cecilia Kramer; her parents, John and Angeline Kuntz; brothers, Joseph and Michael Kuntz; sisters, Julia Haman, Kathryn Wolf and Mary Bartsch; sister-in-law, Virginia Kuntz; brothers-in-law, Adam Haman and Louie Wolf.

Funeral: Wednesday, March 14, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Velva, ND.

Visitation and vigil prayer service: Visitation will be Tuesday, (today) from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., with the vigil prayer service at 7:00 p.m., all at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Velva.

Burial: Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Balfour Cemetery, Balfour, ND.
