Anton "Tony"
Scherr 1933- 2006 Anton "Tony" Rochus Scherr was born on December 8, 1933, the son of Peter and Frances (Streifel) Scherr in Rugby, ND. He was the oldest of eight children, and was raised on a farm near Balta, ND, area. He was educated at Rosedale School #3. As a young adult, he assisted his parents with the operation of the family farm. Tony married Marcella Volk on September 29, 1958, in Orrin, ND. They made their home in Harvey for a short time, where he was employed at Bentz Implement as a mechanic. In April of 1959, they moved to Minot where he began employment as a mechanic and then a partsman with Krebsbach, Inc. He later became employed at Cummins Diesel as a partsman. In the mid 1970's, he started his own business, Tony's Custom Woodworks, while still working at Cummins Diesel. His small business continued to grow making it possible for him to go full-time. In July of 1978, the business became Scherr's Cabinet & Draperies. This eventually evolved into Scherr's Cabinet & Doors. Tony retired in August of 2001, when he and Marcy sold the business to their two sons, Wayne and Leon. He was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Minot Chamber of Commerce, and the Home Builders Association. He enjoyed yard work, gardening, woodworking; restoring sickle mowers, wagon wheels, and horse-drawn wagons. He loved his tools and toys. He was one who would always have to stay busy, could never stay idle. Surviving family includes: wife of 47 years, Marcy, Minot; children, Wayne (Becky) Scherr, Minot, Brenda (Robert) Cunningham, Mechanicsburg, OH, and Leon (Barbara) Scherr, Minot; grandchildren, Tanner Lee Scherr, Cameron James Scherr, and Ryne Kevin Sanford; brothers, Victor (Delilah) Scherr, Balta, ND, Ted (Mary) Scherr, Minot, and Don (Edie) Scherr, Bismarck, ND; sisters, Helen (Edward) Niess, Sawyer, ND, and Audrey (Ron) Williams, Minot; brother-in-law, Bennie Duchsherer, Karlsruhe; sister-in-law, Gloria Scherr, Minot; several aunts and uncles; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Tony was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Duchsherer; and brother, Kenneth Scherr. Mass of Christian Burial: Monday, May 15, 2006, at
