Kelly Sauer 1932 - 2005

Kelly Sauer, 73, Minot, longtime Minot Realtor, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005, in a Minot hospital.

Clarence E. "Kelly" Sauer was born on February 4, 1932, the son of Joseph and Mary (Chapdelaine) Sauer in rural Carpio, North Dakota. He was raised in the Carpio area and attended rural school in Muskego Township. He graduated from Carpio High School in 1950.

Kelly entered the United States Army on July 23, 1952. He served with the Military Police in Germany and was awarded the Occupational Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged on July 13, 1954.

After his discharge, he attended Minot State University, where he received Bachelor's Degree in Education. After teaching in Antler, Donnybrook, Des Lacs, and Macintosh, South Dakota, he continued his education at the University of North Dakota, where he received his Master's Degree in Education Administration. He was superintendent of schools at Granville for a number of years.

In the early 1950's, Kelly received his pilot's license and later started Sauer Brother's Aerial Spraying Service with his brother, Harold.

He was instrumental in building Midwest Processing sunflower plant near Velva, which is now owned by ADM and processes canola.

In 1978, he became a real-estate agent and later joined Signal Realty. He was also a member of the North Central Trade Corridor Association and the American Legion.

Kelly was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing with his family and friends, especially at Pelican Narrows, Saskatchewan, Canada.

Surviving family includes: brothers: Harold (Marilyn) Sauer of Glenburn; Earl (Verna) Sauer of Sheyenne; Wilfred (Margo) of Fergus Falls, MN; Richard (Pearl) Sauer of Carpio; and Lyle (Jean) Sauer of Fountain City, WI;sisters: Marjorie (John) Knoll of Bismarck; Geraldine (Greg) Stefanich of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and Catheryn (William) Gumeringer of Bismarck. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Kelly was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Sandy Sauer; and a nephew, Steven Sauer.

Mass of Christian Burial: Monday, May 9, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot.

Interment: St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Foxholm, ND.

Visitation: Sunday from Noon until 5 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Vigil Prayer Service: Sunday at 5 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
