Harold J. Sauer 1929 - 2006

Harold J. Sauer, 76, Glenburn, died Friday, August 25, 2006 in a Minot hospital.

Harold was born November 12, 1929, the son of Joseph and Mary (Chapdelaine) Sauer in rural Carpio, ND. He was raised in the Carpio area and attended rural school in Muskego Township. He graduated from St. Leo's High School of Minot in 1947.

After graduation, he went back to the family farm where he farmed with his Dad. In the late 1940's he got his pilot's license and bought his first airplane, a J-3 Cub which is still in the family. He and his brother, Clarence, operated Sauer Brothers' Spraying Service in the early 1950's. This family business was in operation for nearly 40 years.

In 1960, he married Marilyn Leitzke at Glenburn. They purchased a farm in Van Buren Township where they reared their five children and where he lived at the time of his death.

Harold, a lifelong farmer, was active in community affairs. Activities included board member and Assessor for Muskego and Van Buren Townships, Hartland Insurance Director, Lions Club of Glenburn, Order of the Eagles, Glenburn Fire Department, Lansford Senior Citizens, Renville/Bottineau Ag Improvement Association, North Central Human Services Advisory Board, St. Philomena's Catholic Church, Glenburn and the church council, Diocesan Pastoral Council, Verendrye Electric Advisory Board, NDSU North Central Research Center, 4-H Leader, Recipient of the Renville County Soil Conservation District Award and the NDSU Harvest Bowl Award.

Those sharing in his life include his wife, Marilyn of Glenburn, and their children: Patricia Stanley, of Moorhead, MN; David (Debra) Sauer of Hazen; Roger Sauer of Glenburn; LaVonne (Glenn) Wegner of Bowman; Cheryl (Kelly) Fischer of Devils Lake and eight grandchildren; brothers, Earl (Verna) Sauer of Sheyenne, ND, Wilfred (Margo) Sauer of Fergus Falls, MN, Richard (Pearl) Sauer of Carpio, ND and Lyle (Jean) Sauer of Winona, MN; sisters, Marge (John) Knoll of Bismarck, ND, Geraldine (Greg) Stefanich of Cedar Falls, IA, and Catheryn (William) Gumeringer of Bismarck; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Clarence; sisters-in-law, Jean Sauer and Sandra Sauer and nephew, Steven Sauer.

Funeral: Wednesday, August 30, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Philomena Catholic Church, Glenburn.

Visitation and vigil prayer service: Visitation Tuesday, August 29, 2006, from noon to 7:00 p.m. with the vigil prayer service at 7:00 p.m., all at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Burial: St. Philomena Catholic Cemetery, Glenburn.
