Earl Satterthwaite 1919- 2011 Earl Thomas Satterthwaite was born August 22, 1919, in Sanish, ND, the son of John B. and Isabel (Conaway) Satterthwaite. He was reared and educated in Sanish and graduated from Sanish High School. He then attended North Dakota State University. Earl lived in Chicago from 1941 to 1950; he was a machinist in a Defense Plant until entering the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946. In 1950 he returned to New Town, North Dakota, where he owned and operated the S-Bar Ranch, which had been homesteaded by his father in 1906. Earl retired to Minot in 1998, after 48 years on his beloved ranch. Earl married Barbara Wing in Chicago on March 21, 1942. They celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary in 2011. They had two children, Gary and Marianne. Earl loved his ranching life, raising Hereford cattle, from the herd his father started, until changing times required cross breeding. He loved people, and made many friends over the years, from all walks of life. His family was always very special to him. Following retirement Earl and Barbara travelled over the United States, spending many winters in Florida. Earl was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Minot, and Lakeside Senior Citizens, New Town, ND. He served on the Riverview #21 School Board, Knife River Township Board, and the Sanish Riverview Cemetery Board for over 40 years. He was the trustee for First Baptist Church in New Town, and was a Deacon at Immanuel Baptist Church in Minot. Earl is survived by his wife, Barbara Satterthwaite, Minot; son, Gary (Sue) Satterthwaite, New Town, ND; daughter, Marianne (Doug) Bender, Clearwater, FL; six grandchildren, Renee (James) Dufner, Carol (Brent) Danks, Allison (Mike) Zimmerman, Laurel (Jamie) Hyatt, Joanna (Josh) Schofield, and Randy Bender; twelve great-grandchildren; brother, Orville Satterthwaite, Hobart, IN; and sister, Barbara (A.D.) Morgan, Vernon, TX. Earl was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Hazel (Wayne) Evans, Esther (Tony) Rohde, Ruth (Dayl) Alden, and Claire (Bob) Moore. Funeral: Wednesday, November 23, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church, Minot.
